But what exactly is the
KonMari Method ?
TM
The KonMari Method® was developed by world-renowned Japanese home organizer Marie Kondo. It is an organizational approach that emphasizes category over location, sorting and discarding before storing, and a love for items we keep and gratefulness for what we let go.
What makes is it so unique and effective? If follows six simple guidelines . . .
Commit yourself to tidying
For the method to really work its magic, you’ve got to be all in.

imagine your
ideal lifestyle
What is your vision for your home? Only hold on to things that support this vision.

discarding first
It's tempting to start at The Container Store. You don't want to spend time & money storing items you don't love.

tidy by category,
not location
My lightbulb, "Why didn't I
think of that?!" moment.
follow the right
order
Clothing, Books, Paper, Komono, Sentimental Items

Ask yourself if
it sparks Joy
Surround yourself only with things you love or you love for their usefullness.
What the KonMari Method
IS NOT:
®
It is NOT minimalism
It’s about QUALITY, not QUANTITY. It doesn’t matter if you decide to keep all your items or nothing at all. What matters is WHY you keep what you keep. Does it spark joy? This is the lens through which you observe everything you own. And eventually it will extend to all areas of your life.
It is NOT a one-size-fits-all approach
Though the method and categories stay
the same, each journey is unique to you and your needs.
It does NOT involve your being allowed to keep only 30 books (or whatever that rumor going around claims :-)
If it sparks joy, it sparks joy! Period. You are the boss. Most people find they are able to reduce significantly while keeping the things they love.
It is NOT ME telling YOU what to keep, what to let go
See above. :-) Again, you are the boss. You are making the decisions. I’m the support staff - helping facilitate the process and asking the right questions.
It is NOT something to dread and put off
I promise you this will be FUN. Hard work? Yes! But one of the most rewarding and satisfying experiences of your life. Truly. I’m also super funny so we will have a blast.
